Xmas in London

We had a great xmas away from home, with just the two of us we opted for an xmas lunch at Asia de Cuba, a trendy restaurant mixing asian and mediterranean, the deserts were amazing too. As the tube was closed for xmas we walked to the restaurant via Hyde Park. On the way home we walked via Buckingham Palace and waited for the 5pm light show to start, where they had two massive stacks of projectors shining images onto the front of the palace. The images were extremely clear, sharp and bright, including a union jack and an excellent tracing of the palace features in thick white on a purple background, turning the palace into a big cartoon like building.

On Boxing Day we headed out to the sales at Selfridges, and Harvey Nichols on Saturday. The queues were amazing, as were the price reductions. I hate to use the term "genuine reductions" but there really were. It's rare that you can pickup so many designer labels at 50% off. There were so many people queued up at Prada and Gucci for example they needed club style security guards regulating the flow of customers into the sections. People were frantic, handbags and clothes were flying everywhere. The shoes were particularly popular. The Harrods sale was supposed to be good too, with extreme reductions on many items, particularly high end TVs and digital cameras for 100 quid! Hopefully I can pickup a nice suit and overcoat over the next few days, although I guess all the good stuff is probably long gone.

I resolved the last IE layout issue with my site this morning, so I'll leave it for now. One anonying aspect of the cutover is that new lines (br's) are not being recognised in any of my weblog posts, so I'll have to write some code to go through and fix them all up with proper XHTML br's.
