Weekend Wrap

Logged Sunday, 5th May 2002 - Daily - Perma-Link - Comments (0)
So so weekend, as mentioned before kicked off at The Basement on Friday night, spent Saturday morning trying to get my car inspected for rego. Note: most mechanics close after 12pm on Saturdays along with most RTA offices, finally bolted into the last late opening RTA near me at 1:58pm. Ate at Furatsu, one of favourite Japanese restaurants, and then watched We Were Soldiers (very good). Got up at 11am and had breakfast at bills2 at about 12:15pm. Did some shopping, had afternoon tea at Max Brenners. Hung out, relaxed. Picked up a brochure advertising Sublime Submission at The Dome (Homebush) on the June long weekend, wonder if that'll be worth checking out? Maybe.

Unfortunately there was a fatal plane crash at Bankstown today between a Tobago (AFTS) and a Piper Warrior II (Hennessey & Clamback). They haven't determined the cause yet, but I would guess from the diagrams I saw on the TV news that one of the pilots was not correctly following the circuit instructions from the control tower or did not receive them. Like I said in my post about last weeks flying lesson, it gets VERY busy around Bankstown, there are aircraft flying everywhere. You need to be really alert to what's going on around you with height, speed and separation. Bankstown is actually amongst the busiest airports in the world based on aircraft movements per year. During peak times there can be a aircraft landing or taking off every minute. Very sad anyway.

There was also a $1 million dollar day light robery from Tiffany & Co on Saturday morning. Two guys in balaclavas armed with a sledge hammer and hand gun, broke in and targetted the expensive stuff. They had a third driver waiting in a stolen WRX out the front. This is by no means the biggest heist in Sydney's history, aparently in 1988 theives used gelignite and blow torches on a bank vault in China Town and got away with $100mil!

The American Buffy community is in an uproar, after the incorrect episode was beamed to affiliates by the studio and aired last week. Viewers tuned in to see episode 19 instead of 18! As Buffy runs quite detailed season long story lines, this mix up has spoilt the suspense and flow that has been building up over the past few months. I'm sure whoever was responsible for this mixup will get the boot.
